Halle Berry responsible for monthly child support payment of $16K

By Tolison & Williams / June 13, 2014

Child support in Colorado ensures that both parents help to cover the expenses of rearing their children, even if the parents don’t live together. However, parents sometimes don’t agree on how much child support one of them should be required to pay the other. One well-known actress in another state has just been told that she has to pay a large amount of child support to her ex-boyfriend.

This actress is Halle Berry, and her ex is a Canadian model named Gabriel Aubry. Berry recently learned that she will have to pay more than $16,000 a month to Aubry as part of her child support obligation. She will be responsible for making these payments until their daughter, Nahla, is 19 years old or becomes a high school graduate -- whichever happens first. The decision came in late May, following a long-lasting child support battle between the couple.

In addition, Berry has to pay more than $100,000 in retroactive child support. Her ex’s legal fees, amounting to about $300,000, are also Berry’s responsibility. As part of their settlement, both parents have to cover their daughter’s health costs, while Aubry will cover the girl’s tuition.

The two celebrities have been embroiled in their major child support legal dispute since their split-up in 2010. When a couple in Colorado is able to agree on how to handle child support on their own, they can avoid court intrusion. If they do have to go to court, a judge will ultimately determine what one parent’s child support payment will be, primarily based on the earnings of both parents.
