Divorce laws in colorado division of property

When dealing with a divorce, your assets are very important to you. You want to protect the things you have been growing your entire life.

I am Kathryn R. Tolison of Tolison & Williams, Attorneys at Law, LLC. I am an experienced Adams County property division attorney who will advocate for you, digging into your case and helping you reach a favorable outcome.

Equitable Versus Equal Property Division

In Colorado, property division is equitable, but equitable is not the same as equal. When dividing assets after a divorce, many subjective components come into play. It is important to obtain accurate valuations for your property and all business assets as well.

One parent may work outside the home, gathering the income, while the other stays at home and cares for the children. It is important to note that the parent who made the money is not automatically entitled to more of the estate because he or she contributed more financially.

An emphasis is placed on fairness based on the different circumstances. Each case requires special attention to detail. As a 100 percent family law lawyer, my distractions are limited and I have the ability to give your case the attention it deserves.

Your Colorado attorney should be creative, attentive and able to listen and gauge the contributions you made to the marriage. It bears repeating: Your financial contribution does not dictate the assets to which you are entitled. I represent both sides of property division cases. From experience, I can assure you that the best possible outcome is the direct result of striking a balance. This requires creativity and the ability to characterize each contribution.
