Man granted speedy divorce after wife is criminally charged

By Tolison & Williams / November 11, 2014

Many spouses may fear how long it will take to be granted a divorce, especially since the process usually takes months or even longer. Colorado residents may be interested in learning about a case in which a man was granted an expedited divorce from his ex-wife. This happened after the wife was accused of sexual assault of a teenage boy.

Earlier this year, the ex-wife made a statement that the two were separated, but there were no plans for an immediate divorce. However, that changed when the man, who is also the non-executive chairman of an energy company, just filed for divorce from her in the recent month. While it normally takes three months for a divorce to be granted, this case only took three weeks. Recently, the ex-wife was formally charged with two counts of third-degree rape and four counts of unlawful sexual contact.

According to court documents, the woman met her alleged victims on Instagram through her son. One of the incidents occurred on Labor Day weekend at a beach house in Colorado. Reports indicate that the ex-wife was involved in multiple sexual acts with a minor, which included occasions of oral sex. At last report, she had pleaded not guilty to her charges.

Divorce typically can be time-consuming and frustrating for Colorado spouses. However, in cases where one of the spouses has been accused of criminal conduct, it is possible for the divorce process to be expedited, such as in this case. If there are children involved, evidence of criminal charges may be used against the other spouse for a favorable outcome.
